Making a Difference: Women in Congress

Meet Congresswomen Donna F. Edwards:

  • Has represented Maryland's Fourth District since 2008; first African American woman to represent Maryland in Congress
  • Serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee  
  • Before entering Congress, was a nonprofit public interest advocate and worked on NASA's Spacelab project. 
  • Co-founder and former executive director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence; led the effort to pass the 1994 Violence Against Women Act
